The common myth of aging is the magical disappearance of the libido after age 50. Although older adults do struggle with the loss of libido, this decrease in sex drive is not solely defined by age. Women have found hormonal issues derived from menopause, lack of exercise, stress and other life factors to cause a drop in sex drive. Men have also found a drop in sex drive due to low testosterone, low energy, stress, and lack of exercise.

If you have found a disruptive decrease in your sex drive, evaluate physical factors first. Many times an increase of exercise lowers anxiety, stress and increases overall physical health. This can be a simple solution to relieving unnecessary burdens blocking intimacy. Begin a simple exercise routine such as a daily walk with your partner. This will not only relieve stress, it will create focused face time with your partner to open intimate emotional connections.

Unfortunately, issues caused by medical conditions can develop past the point of novice remedies. Communicate with your doctor about medical conditions limiting your sexual activity. Explore a variety of professional solutions from sex therapy to medicine. Continue to evaluate the remaining aspects, such as stress, residing in your life. Family, health, and financial issues can cause lasting emotional strain. Set aside time with your partner to engage in stress reducing activities to create a relaxed open space for romance to spark.
