Psychotherapy is a very common method of treating depression that is broken down in three general ways. They are as follows:

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) -  This type of therapy helps individuals change their negative thinking by recognizing behaviors that may make depression worse.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) - This type of therapy helps individuals whereby individuals work through troubled relationships to alleviate some issues causing depression.
  • Problem-Solving Therapy (PST) -  This type therapy helps to improve someone’s reactions to stress in his or her life, ultimately making depression less severe.
