Ageism is an age bias as it relates to cancer treatment. Commonly, patients older than 65 years of age are undertreated for cancer. Studies have shown that when appropriate treatment has been identified, older patients are less likely to receive the standard of care. When it comes to cancer treatment, age is just a number. Treatment options should be based upon the patient’s entire health status, and not just age.
