A computer tech scam is a what it sounds like. It’s basically a scam that happens when someone calls claiming that they are from a tech company offering support. They then convince and/or use scare tactics to force the elderly person into thinking that their computer has been hacked and that they need to pay a certain amount of money to get it fixed.

Sometimes, computer tech scams are so advanced that the elderly person’s computer shows a warning and then requests that the owner of the computer call a certain phone number immediately. NBC Nightly News did a report on it. The best way to avoid being scammed is to not panic and then physically take your computer into a computer store to have it looked at.
