As women age, it’s common for their estrogen levels to drop which can result in an increased risk of osteoporosis. Essentially, estrogen itself promotes the activity of osteoblasts, which are cells used to produce bone. This treatment can be helpful in promoting bone health in aging women, however estrogen therapy is not recommended for those who have:

• Breast or uterine cancer

• Poor liver function

• A history of blood clots
