It’s come to my attention that my mother might have an overactive bladder and she’s too embarrassed to seek help for it. How can I convince her that it’s normal?

That’s a great question and something many families struggle with. To start, you can talk to her about how it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Overactive bladders (especially for women) can be a natural part of aging. However, in some cases there are other underlying medical conditions that may need to be addressed in order to treat an overactive bladder - some of which are very serious. If she’s comfortable with the idea, ask if you can accompany her to an appointment with a specialist. Together you can find a solution that will make an overactive bladder nothing to worry about!
