There are several available medications for either the prevention or treatment of osteoporosis. More times than not, these medications will be taken in conjunction with one another. Although you may not feel a direct strengthening of your bones, it is important to maintain a steady intake of the medication to avoid deficiencies. Should side effects occur, speak openly about your concerns with your doctor or pharmacist.

Common medications include:

  • Bisphosphonates
  • Estrogen Agonists
  • Calcitonin
  • Parathyroid Hormones
  • RANKL Inhibitors

Although osteoporosis is a condition faced by more and more people each year, there are ways to limit the effect of bone loss in your own life. Proper exercise and nutrition, combined with the appropriate supplements or medication can ensure that your bones maintain their health for years to come.
