Since both of your parents had diabetes, it does put you at a greater risk for developing it. However, it doesn’t mean that you are doomed to get it. Although Type 1 diabetes is something people are typically born with, Type 2 Diabetes can develop over time due to lifestyle habits such as being overweight, eating a lot of sugar and not exercising. If you attempt to live a healthy lifestyle, you will lower your risk of getting diabetes, despite your genetic link to the disease.
