Caregiving is a rewarding, but challenging task, especially for new caregivers. Initially, there might be a learning curve. To overcome this, learn everything you can about your senior's health condition or ailment. The more you understand about their condition, the less anxiety you'll feel about caring for them. Consider joining organizations that are specific to your senior's health condition or illness.

Encourage your loved one to be independent. Just because you are their caregiver does not mean that they can not do anything for themselves. Always try to give your senior the opportunity to be as independent and mobile as possible.

Reach out to others to find out how they deal with caregiving stresses. You can find a local caregiver support group so you can meet other people that will remind you that you're not alone. If you do not have a caregiver support group in your area, look online or see a therapist or counselor. Can other family members or friends of the aging senior give you a break sometimes? The task of caretaking is quite burdensome and overwhelming at times.

Don't forget to tend to your own need and don't try to take everything on by yourself. Even though it isn't always easy, ask for help if you need it. Remember that if you don't take care of your own needs, you won't be able to tend to the needs of your senior.
