Bringing up the idea of having to leave one's home to move to a new community can be a shock. As we get older and less independent, we start to resist changes because we feel like we are losing control of our lives. Keep this in mind, and listen to any concerns or questions your senior might have as empathetically as you can. Although it can be difficult to bring up the prospect of assisted living, it’s important to communicate to them the many benefits these communities offer. Take them to tour some facilities so they can see what it would be like to live there.
