Because age is a risk factor, as we get older, we are all at risk for developing arthritis. However, there are other risk factors that have been associated with a greater risk of arthritis. For example, in general, arthritis is more prevalent in women. Those that have a history of joint injuries may also develop osteoarthritis. Specific genes are also associated with certain types of arthritis.
