There are many different kinds of cancers and they each have their own risk factors. Let's look at some causes of common cancers:

For lung cancer, risk factors include smoking cigarettes and cigars, being exposed to tobacco smoke, and long-term exposure to asbestos fibers.

Risk factors for colon cancer include age, eating too much meat or processed foods, having Type 2 diabetes, having chron's disease, and family history.

You may be at risk for stomach cancer if you have a family history of it, eat too much meat, drink too much alcohol, eat too much salt or smoke tobacco.

Risk factors for breast cancer include family history, high estrogen levels, obesity, and high alcohol intake.

You are at a greater risk of developing prostate cancer if you are a male over the age of 50, African-American, have a diet high in meat and dairy, or have a family history of prostate cancer.
