My father may need a caregiver soon after his next procedure. Unfortunately I'm the only one of his children still living in the area and am working full-time. Is it possible for me to take leave?

According to the Department of Labor, “the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides certain employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave per year. It also requires that their group health benefits be maintained during the leave.” Employees are only eligible for leave if they meet certain requirements. Beyond that, you’ll need to have a talk with your company about any other options they may have for you.
