My mother recently had surgery and she needs someone to look after her for about 8-10 weeks. One of my friends said I can take some time off of work and still keep my job. Is this true?

The Family and Medical Leave Act allows eligible employees to take unpaid leave for specific family medical reasons with continued health insurance coverage. During a 12-month period, up to 12 weeks of leave can be taken to care for your parent. Talk to the human resources department of your employer and find out if you eligible to take this job-protected time off to care for your mother.
